By Candace Reeves

Here we are at the end of our first week of Outreach at Gleanings For The Hungry, a YWAM base in Dinuba, California. We had many opportunities to serve this week which included working at the soup plant, doing some construction, leading worship, and helping with kitchen duties.  Working at the soup plant was definitely some hard work, but we were glad to help, especially knowing we were involved in the feeding of 806,544 people.

Working in the soup plant included putting a spoonful of soup base into Ziploc bags then adding the mix of the soup, getting the air out of the bags and packaging them into boxes for them to be shipped out.  We also had a few people working in the construction site outside preparing the ground to have cement poured for short term volunteers traveling in RV’s.

Our team was asked to lead worship for the base on Wednesday morning for chapel time. Brittaney, our designated worship leader along with Elizabeth, Jenna and Caleb led us all. When volunteering at Gleanings For The Hungry, the staff ask that we participate in the kitchen. Throughout the week we were able to prepare meals and clean up after them, yay!

This has been a challenging week for our team as we are adjusting to the different environment and circumstances. We’ve had some tough times just within our team, but as we are working through those times we are becoming stronger. This has been a nice transition going to Gleanings for out first week of Outreach. While we have been experiencing some uncomfortable changes, we still have some familiar comforts and are grateful that everything that is to come was not thrown at us all at once.

We will be departing at 2 p.m. for a 4 hour drive to LA and then off to Fiji we go!

Please keep us in your prayers,
Thank you!
